libraries day.

five ways to take part in National Libraries Day.

National Libraries Day on 7 February is an annual celebration of libraries which aims to say thank you to the nation’s librarians for the wonderful work they do, encourage people to visit their library and promote the work of libraries of all kinds. we’re proud to be part of the team behind the event along with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, the School Library Association and the Society of Chief Librarians. here’s how you can get involved.

1. visit your local library on 7 February

Hundreds of fantastic events are taking place at libraries across the country, from coffee mornings and quiz nights to treasure hunts and concerts. take a look at the National Libraries Day map to see what’s on in your area.

2. download materials to promote your library

it’s not too late to organise an event or promote your library using our posters and online materials. you can download National Libraries Day logos, illustrated posters from Walker Books, or banners for social media.

3. share what you love about libraries

on 7 February we want you to tell us what you think is great about libraries on Twitter or Facebook. share your #shelfie of library books or library shelves or tell us what you love about libraries using #NLD2015.

4. take part in our competition for Reading Activists

we want Reading Activists groups to share their own creative #shelfies with the Reading Activist Twitter account to celebrate National Libraries Day. all their #shelfies will be entered into our competition to win a set of photos printed on marshmallows from Boomf.

5. join your library!

the motto of National Libraries Day is use it, love it, join it so it’s a great time to become a member of your local library. if you already use it regularly, why not challenge yourself to get at least one other person to join? let us know how you get on.
